Day lighting is the controlled admission of natural light—direct
sunlight and diffuse skylight—into a building to reduce electric lighting and
saving energy. By providing a direct link to the dynamic and perpetually
evolving patterns of outdoor illumination, daylighting helps create a visually
stimulating and productive environment for building occupants, while reducing
as much as one-third of total building energy costs.A day lighting system is
comprised not just of daylight apertures, such as skylights and windows, but is
coupled with a daylight-responsive lighting control system. When there is
adequate ambient lighting provided from daylight alone, this system has the
capability to reduce electric lighting power. Further, the fenestration, or
location of windows in a building, must be designed in such a way as to avoid
the admittance of direct sun on task surfaces or into occupants’ eyes.Download

Al Raha Beach is an ambitious plan to build an entire city on 6.5
million square metres of Abu Dhabi’s beachfront and Benny will
oversee the design and construction of Al Seef, the scheme’s residential
and retailed centerpiece. In an attempt to ‘green’ the desert setting through
sustainable design, the architects brought the landscape and water element together to create a unique and habitable
environment. This will be UAE’s first sustainable all-year-round mixed-use residential resort with pedestrian
access and multiple modes of water transport. Al Seef will establish a
residential community with a variety of apartments, townhouses and villas,
which will help in the continuing use of the leisure, retail and dining
elements during evenings and weekends. As the adhesive that binds the scheme
together, the public realm has received a great deal of attention in terms of
its design and quality,Download
